Some tie laying and staining has 'morphed' us to this spot. All of the ties in the Maysville Peninsula have been put down and stained, and are now ready for some rail. I figured that I would use this area as the 'rest' place for my track laying, away from the 3 rail madness in Salida.

• The transition piece has been constructed from the lower portal to the bridge into Salida. I'm still not sure how I will build the joining piece, so I have to do some thinking on that.

• The Micore has been cut and placed on the switchbacks. I tried to make sure that the joints were not overlapping on any switches or approaches to the switches, so that I would have a nice transition up to and just past the switches themselves. Seems to work pretty good for the most part.
• The island has been completed and now onto the track work (well...sub-bed anyway). The 190 degree turn through the lower tunnel portal has been installed (with the track work inside the tunnel being installed as well). The straight section is going to be the Maysville siding, so where hopefully we will be able to Double the Turn properly :)
• Another view of the Switchbacks. This gives you a better idea on how the grades are.
• This view shows the switchbacks have been cut out (thanks for the help Brandan!) and the risers have been installed. This view also gives you a little better idea how the 190 degree turn is being handled after leaving the Salida yards. The grade up to the switchbacks are 3%, with the mainline going to 2% the rest of the way and the switchbacks being 3%. I really would have liked to have tried 4% (or the 4.5% that was done in this area, but the weight ratio just isn't in our models like they need to be (without putting on traction tires).
• The finished track work completed by Mike.
Next session, building the switches!
• The climb up the hill to the is now evident in this shot. Notice the small hole in the wall on the right of the picture...that is the starting point for the climb. Once it makes the 180 degree turn the 3% grade starts from there.
The end towards the bottom of the screen will be hidden in a tunnel (which is why I have the curve so generous).
• Ahhhhh....finished! Mike gives a test of a Blackstone Stock Car on the newly finished track.
• Dave working on the completion of the island with the rest of the open girders. Here he is anchoring the perpendicular pieces to the supporting structure.

Mike is working on hand laying track for the Salida car repair facility.
• This is the additional island portion of the Maysville Peninsula. This portion will extend towards the west wall and will give the walking area in the layout a "N" shape if you will. Most of the isles in this area will be around 28" to 30" wide, with some spots having around 32" of walk space. Hopefully this will be enough for operations.
• The beginning of the Maysville climb, which goes to two areas. One would be over to Cumbres and the other would be up to the second level via the switchbacks. Both should be a lot of fun to operate.

The small shelf at the front of the divider wall you see is the turn around point for the lower loop of the layout (coming from the Salida yards). Yes...it is through two holes in the wall, as you see in this picture. The upper hole is for the re-directed loop that goes over the small shelf over Salida as well. (Can you believe I have such a great understanding wife that she let me make 4 holes in a wall. Granted I have to fix them too, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there).
