Gramps Refinery

This is a view of the gramps refinery area. It is also the area to where I can turn the narrow gauge engines, which is located under the Cumbres Peninsula.

  • Overall view moving from the Salida yards, up the Canyon (and through the wall), to the mine area. I'm still not sure what the mine will be called (need to figure out a good name to pay tribute to my wife for letting me do this great layout) but it will be based off of the Gold King Mill that was located near Gladstone, Colorado (just east of Silverton, CO).
  • The yards are complete and the panels have been installed. I opted (after mocking up pieces and talking with a lot of operator friends) to mount the Salida control panels on the upper deck. This was done mainly to keep the isles as free as possible for operators to move around.

  • Jump forward a few weeks and this is what you get. More facia work going on and more of an idea on how the railroad will look. The bridge works (and runs) great and the engines transition to the 3 rail just fine.
  • The micore is on the bridge and a few 'add on's' have been used too (like the handle?) and now ties area being added to the area. Power for this section of track will come from the Salida district, via some copper pieces placed on both the bridge and fixed area of the yards.
  • The upper deck is in place of the bridge and now only needs to have the micore added.
  • I figured that it was about time to tackle the 'draw bridge' across to Salida. This bridge was made with high grade poplar wood. On the right you can see how I am blocking the bridge into place..
  • The inspection train makes its way to the closet and across to the next portion of the layout.
  • Jump forward a few months of hard work and the first train over the newly laid rail is occurring. The president of the railroad, C.A. Linn inspects the hardwork of the track and grade crews.
  • Ties and track begin on the upper level to tie into the upper 'hole in the wall' that will link on the other end of the Maysville Peninsula.
  • This angle gives you an idea on how the Salida and the Maysville Peninsula will link up.
  • I can just see the Barrel Transfer operating now. Only a few hundred hours to make it. :)
  • Another view of the Salida three rail territory.
